Rye City Issues Blizzard Advisory UPDATE
From Rye City:
BLIZZARD ADVISORY UPDATE
A State of Emergency has been declared for Westchester County as of 5 p.m. today, Monday, January 26, 2015.
A travel ban on all local and state roads will go into effect at 11 p.m. Drivers who violate the travel ban can be fined up to $300.
The City advises all residents to stay off of the roads. If you go out in a vehicle, and get into an accident or get stranded, emergency response will be severely delayed.
Westchester's Bee-Line bus and Paratransit service will be suspended at 8 p.m. Monday. There will be no bus or Paratransit service on Tuesday. Service will resume on Wednesday when road conditions allow.
Metro-North railroad service will suspend at 11 p.m. Monday.
Residents are urged to not park in the street, so that snow plows and salting trucks can get through and perform plow operations.
It is illegal and unsafe to shovel, blow or plow snow into the street. It makes it unsafe for emergency and snow plow operations, unsafe for all drivers going along the streets, and unsafe for you.
Rye City Hall is expected to be open on Tuesday, January 27, 2015, but with limited services.
If the event of an emergency, call 911. For all non-emergencies, call the City of Rye Police Desk at 967-1234, and press 0 for the Desk Officer.
If there is a power outage, please contact Con Edison at their customer service number of 1-800-75-CONED (1-800-752-6633).
Please execute caution and be safe in the event of a power outage:
1) Do not use a grill or a kerosene or propane heater to stay warm indoors during a power outage. Using these devices indoors creates a major risk and likelihood of carbon monoxide poisoning and a high risk of death.
2) Do not use your oven to stay warm in the event of a power outage.
3) If you have a generator, do not connect it to your home's power system unless it has been properly installed and disconnects you from the main power grid when it is operating. If you do not disconnect from the power grid, you can transmit electricity back into the power supply system, which could be harmful or deadly for Con Edison workers.
Stay safe and stay indoors until the storm has passed!
