Rye Town Beach Season Opens May 22nd
One hundred and six years strong, Rye Town Beach opens May 22, 2015:
For the 106th consecutive year, Rye Town Park’s beaches will open for swimming, starting on Memorial Day weekend, starting on Friday, May 22nd.
The 62 acres of Rye Town Park includes 34 acres of beach and swimming areas — known by “old timers” as Rye Beach and Oakland Beach.
The park's crescent shaped 1,200-foot long sparkling white sand beaches offer the general public splendid access to the shores of the Long Island Sound.
Rye Town Park is located in the City of Rye, New York. The parking entrance is located at 95 Dearborn Avenue, east of Forest Avenue.
Three gates provide access to the beach. The north gate is near Rye Beach Avenue, and the south gate is on Dearborn Avenue. The center gate is located next to Seaside Johnnie’s Restaurant. Snack bars are located below the restaurant and by the north beach entrance gate.
Also below the restaurant is a beach shop, which offers a variety of bathing suits, towels, suntan lotion and other beach gear for sale.
Trained and certified lifeguards are on duty throughout the day, as long as swimming is permitted. Lifeguards and park rangers monitor the beach and park to make sure everyone is safe and to answer any questions that visitors might have.
The Westchester County Department of health samples the water weekly, to make sure that the quality is high. The Park staff cleans and rakes the beach daily.
Bathrooms and showers are conveniently located at the south, middle and north ends of the beach. Water fountains are located near the administration building and bathhouse. A third water fountain is located on the beach, near the lifeguard/first aid station.
Beach goers can also take advantage of the nearly 28-acre lawn area, with sunny and tree-shaded areas for relaxation. Wristbands provide for patrons coming and going from beach to park throughout the day.
Two pavilions and two beach barbecue facilities are available for rental.
