If you happen to have some extra guns around the house in Rye, don’t go tossing them into the Long Island Sound…
This from Kieran O’Leary at the Westchester County Police:
“At about 6:40 a.m. this morning, a woman on the boardwalk at Playland observed a man throw several guns into the water.
She went into the ice casino and reported what she saw to a county employee. The county police were notified and responded. The man was still on the boardwalk and he told our officer that he had a rifle and a BB gun/pistol that he wanted to get rid of but did not know how to do so. So he decided to throw them into the Sound.
The man is a 70-year-old Rye resident. He has not been charged at this time.
Our Marine Unit responded and was able to retrieve the two weapons.
The rifle was a .22-caliber model. It was not loaded. The other was a handgun-style BB gun.
If anyone has a weapon they want to dispose of, they should contact their local police department for guidance on how to do so safely and legally.”
