Rye School Locked Down After Cafeteria Worker Incident – No One Hurt

An incident involving a school cafeteria worker caused Rye schools to institute lockout procedures on Wednesday.

Citing privacy, the school did not release details on the employee or what exactly happened other than to say the person works for Chartwell's, the food service company, and that Port Chester policy apprehended the individual and had the person in custody.

The notice sent by the school is below.

Subject: No Emergency: Incident at RHS/RMS Campus This Morning

Dear Parents/Guardians of RHS/RMS Students,

I am writing to make you aware of a situation at the shared RHS/RMS building this morning. There was an incident involving an upset cafeteria worker. The worker left the building and we immediately instituted lockout procedures to ensure the safety of students, faculty, and staff. The individual was apprehended by the Port Chester Police shortly thereafter and is now in custody.

We do not believe that any students were aware of the incident, but they may have observed police or security activity on campus. If they have concerns or are feeling anxious, guidance and other counselors are available.

As always, the safety and security of students, faculty, and staff is our highest priority.
