First Ever Rye Community Earth Day Awareness Celebration Planned for Sunday, April 19, 2020
The first ever Rye community Earth Day awareness celebration is being planned for Sunday, April 19th, 2020. This year marks the 50th anniversary of Earth Day.
Friends of Rye Nature Center (FRNC) will appear before the Rye City Council on Wednesday to request the use of the Village Green on April 19th from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00p.m. for the celebration. In a letter to Interim City Manager Greg Usry, FRNC Executive Director Christine Siller said:
“this celebration would be both an awareness raising opportunity about the ways residents can live a more sustainable lifestyle as well as a family fun opportunity. All participating organizations will provide either educational materials (for example, the food scrap program, native plants for our area, Rye’s tree program), a fun educational activity (e.g. bulb planting), and/or a demonstration (FRNC would like to hire someone to showcase our local birds of prey).”
City council approval of events is routine and typically a rubber stamp approval process.
As of now, fifteen local groups have signed on the participate:
Bird Homestead
Conservation Commission Advisory Council
Disbrow Park
Edith Read
Marshlands Conservancy
Rye Arts Center
Rye Free Reading Room
Rye Garden Club
Rye Historical Society
Rye Lions Club
Rye Nature Center
Rye Sustainability Committee
Rye YMCA
Rye Youth Council
Westchester Children’s Museum
Bring the kids, rumor has it Mr. Floatie will be making an appearance on the green for the Earth Day event.

Hope to see a picture of Mr. Floatie with Christine Siller. She won the esteemed Human Rights Commission of Rye award. Lol.
It amazes me how all these local “environmentally concerned” groups in Rye claim to be so concerned. Yet they along with the entire Rye City Council ignore the Hen Island pollution and health code violations that threaten our children year after year.

From what I understand interim Rye Police Commissioner Robert Falk was nominated for a Rye Human Rights lifetime achievement award for amongst other things frequently calling the Rye Police Department’s black custodian a SHINE. I guess he didn’t get it. Oh well. I think it would have looked nice hanging next to the GED he proudly bragged about. Or perhaps he could have put it in his desk next to any evidence he may be withholding.
