Rye PD Arrests 15 Year Old in Wake of Car Thefts in Glen Oaks, Florence Avenue Area

Looks like remote schooling is not working for at least one 15 year old.

Rye PD arrested a 15 year old in the early hours Wednesday after he and others were allegedly involved in stealing cars in the area of Glen Oaks Drive and Florence Avenue. Foot and vehicle chases ensued. One youth rammed a Rye PD vehicle. Three stolen vehicles were recovered by Rye PD.

After processing the suspect was released to his mother. We are thinking this young man is experiencing an even more extreme form of home confinement than the rest of us.

"A 15 year old New Haven juvenile, was arrested after he crashed while operating a stolen vehicle early Wednesday morning. At about 3:09 a.m. on March 25, an alert resident reported approximately 5-7 youths in the process of stealing a neighbor’s vehicle. An officer on patrol in the area of Glen Oaks Drive observed an abandoned vehicle left in the middle of the roadway. While investigating the abandoned vehicle the officer observed 4-5 vehicles stopped in the roadway on Florence Ave. As he approached, the vehicles fled the area in different directions.

The officer stopped one vehicle and as he approached the vehicle on foot, the youth put the car in reverse and rammed his patrol vehicle. The officer pursued the vehicle until it crashed into the rock wall in front of the Rye Golf Club. The youth ran on foot into the golf course where it is believed he stole a bicycle and rode it to the train station in Harrison.

A second youth in a stolen vehicle was pursued by a second Rye Police Officer where he was chased onto a dead end and taken into custody.

In total three stolen motor vehicles were recovered by the Rye Police Department. All the vehicles were left unlocked with the keys in them. The juvenile was processed and released to his mother.

Please remember to bring your key fobs in and lock your vehicles at night."
