In Memory: Joann E (Rappoccio) Amico, Age 77

Joann E. Amico, 77, of Rye, NY died April 10, 2020. She was born June 30, 1942 in Port Chester, NY to her loving parents the late Cosimo and Theresa (Daisy) DeCrescenzo Rappoccio. She was raised and educated in Port Chester and grew up surrounded by many aunts, uncles and cousins. She went on to graduate from PCHS in 1960. Mrs. Amico worked for Fawcett Publications in Greenwich, CT for a number of years and left to be a homemaker and mother, later in life returning to work in the food industry. Joann was a devoted parishioner of Holy Rosary Church and Our Lady of Mercy Church, Port Chester, NY. She was a member of the Port Chester Seniors, Red Hat Society and was an avid bowler for many years.

She was married on August 19, 1961, to Thomas Amico and together they raised four children creating a life in Rye, NY. She was devoted to her children in her own unique ways loving them and their families unconditionally. She was involved not only in their lives her reach went far into their friends’ and their families’ lives as well. She grew close with Tom’s large extended CT family. It brought her great joy to spend time with all of her family.

Joann cherished her grandchildren and the love she had for them was immeasurable. Whether it was her presence at their games, recitals, plays, competitions, milestones, birthdays, or just spending time with them, they will forever feel their Grandma’s love. A piece of her heart was taken on April 18, 2006, when her beloved grandson Jarrid was called home to the Lord and now they are forever joined.

She loved to cook which was evident by the many requests for her “famous” potato salad, homemade mac and cheese, baked beans and sausage & peppers for many occasions and celebrations. The holidays were especially important to Joann. Christmas was one favorite because she got to spoil all the kids, but Easter week was the big deal in the Amico home. It was an annual tradition when family and friends would gather together and be involved in one way or another in the much awaited process of slicing & dicing the meat, mixing, baking, cooking, dyeing eggs, egg hunting, EATING and of course, sharing the results (the MANY Easter breads, pizza-gain pies, pizza-frites & sausage breads) with the large number of friends & family in her life. Those memories will forever live on in all of us.

Friends were a huge part of Joann’s life and there were many. Time spent with her best friend Madeline was always special. Giving brought them both such joy. They shared a love for the NY Yankees, Disney, dining out, shopping, traveling and so much more. There were many road trips near and afar & there was always a good story to follow.

Joann’s devotion to her parents was never ending. She looked up to her big brother Carmine. (Joanna) was his name for her and much time was spent with him and family at his home throughout the years. She shared her love for the Catholic faith with her sister Theresa attending 7:30 mass together every Sunday and breakfast afterwards. Daily, you could find them right beside each other at the PC Senior Center, where surrounded by friends they would enjoy conversation, lunch, bingo, paint night, special events, trips and much more.

In addition to her husband Thomas, Joann is survived by her sons Thomas K. Amico Jr. (Dawn) Port St. Lucie, FL, James W. Amico, Troutman, NC, Carmine M. Amico (Christine) Calabash, NC, daughter Rosemary Klink (Kenneth) White Plains, NY, grandchildren Andrew, Amelia and Sophia Amico, James Jr., Nicholas and Alessandra Amico, Bailey and Daisy Klink, nieces, nephews, great nieces & nephews, five great-great nieces & nephews (Aunt Jo-Jo to them), many cousins and the biggest circle of friends (“family”) any one person could hope for and who loved her deeply. Her beautiful smile and gracious spirit will live on in all of us.

Besides her parents and grandson, Jarrid L. Amico, she was predeceased by brother Carmine Rappoccio, sister Theresa Sabato, nephews Daniel Sabato and Cosmo Rappoccio.

Due to the current COVID-19 Pandemic all funeral services are private. A memorial mass will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Joann Amico may be made to the Port Chester Senior Center, 222 Grace Church Street STE. 1, Port Chester, NY 10573.
