Rye’s Milton School Names New Principal
Annemarie Piekarski has been appointed as Milton School Principal. Schools boss Eric Byrne made the announcement Tuesday evening. Annemarie Piekarski. Piekarski joined Milton School a assistant principal in 2018 from the Westorchard Elementary School in Chappaqua, where she was also the Assistant Principal.
Rye has open searches for the head of the high school and head of athletics.
Here is the announcement that went out from Byrne:
“Dear Milton School Community,
I am so pleased to share with you the exciting news that Milton School will soon have a new Principal. At tonight’s Board of Education meeting, the Board approved my recommendation to appoint Mrs. Annemarie Piekarski as Milton School Principal, effective July 1, 2020.
To find our new Principal, we conducted a rigorous search process in collaboration with School Leadership LLC, screening many candidates via a thorough resume review followed by three levels of interviews with district administrators and a committee of stakeholders, including parents, teachers, and support staff. Additionally, central office administrators and representatives from the Board of Education met with final candidates. Mrs. Piekarski rose to the top of the applicant pool due to her impressive background, strong skill set, knowledge of best educational practices, and warm and friendly demeanor.
Mrs. Piekarski has been the Assistant Principal at Milton School since June 2018. In her role as Assistant Principal, she works closely with Dr. Nardone, teachers, staff and parents to create a learning environment where children feel comfortable taking risks and engaging in the learning process. She is committed to building a love of learning and supporting the social and emotional needs of all our students. She has also led professional development for faculty and staff, focusing on the Teachers College Readers and Writer’s Workshop, the Words Their Way word study program, and Math in Focus. She collaborated with teachers to analyze student performance results to ensure continuous growth and leant her expertise in creating interventions and learning plans for students.
Prior to coming to Rye, Mrs. Piekarski was Assistant Principal of Westorchard Elementary School in Chappaqua, N.Y. At Westorchard, she coordinated Teachers College Reader’s/Writer’s Workshop staff development; collaborated in the creation of active learning spaces, including a Maker-STEAM lab; and chaired the Committee on Special Education. Prior to becoming Assistant Principal, Mrs. Piekarski taught first, second, and fourth grades at Roaring Brook Elementary School in Chappaqua, and third grade at P.S. 18 in the Bronx.
Mrs. Piekarski holds a B.S. in Elementary Education from the University of Scranton, an M.A. in Literacy Education from Teachers College, Columbia University, and a Masters in Administration from Bank Street Graduate School of Education.
Mrs. Piekarski, her husband Chris, and their three children live in Scarsdale, N.Y.
