Playland July 4th Fireworks Cancelled, Beach Will Open for Memorial Day Weekend
In his daily COVID-19 update Monday afternoon, Rye guy and county boss George Latimer reported the Playland July 4th fireworks have been cancelled for 2020. He cited an inability to create a safe environment for attendees.
The county will be opening Playland Beach this Memorial Day weekend. “We do intend to open Playland Beach Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday,” Latimer reported. The opening is for the beach only, and for Memorial Day weekend only. There will be an attendance limit of 50% capacity, and masks and social distancing will be required.
Future opening of the Playland beach beyond Memorial Day depends how well the opening is handled this weekend. Playland Park will remain closed until at least July 20, but there is still no word on an actual opening date or full seasonal closure on the Playland amusement park.
