Latimer Sounds the Alarm with Cases Up: (10 New) 262 COVID-19 Positives in Rye; 1,469 Westchester Resident Deaths – Monday, October 19, 2020

For Monday, Westchester reported a very high ten (10) new COVID cases in Rye. Here are all the City of Rye numbers:

256 total COVID-19 cases since inception;
23 active COVID-19 cases (this assumes the remaining 233 have run the average two week contagion cycle and are no longer active);
10 new COVID-19 cases.

Rye guy and Westchester County boss George Latimer held his weekly COVID-19 briefing on Monday and sounded the alarm with cases climbing across the County. “I’m afraid this report is not a good report,” said Latimer. “(We are) seeing a trendline now in the coronavirus outbreak that has reversed the gains we have made.” Latimer reported 1,033 active coronavirus cases across the county – a number (over 1K) that we have not seen since June.

Latimer said social gatherings where people are taking masks off are a major concern. The county also issued an order for masks to be worn in all schools in Westchester (already a practice in Rye schools). He also said the County will be making an assessment of youth sports. In fact, Rye schools boss Eric Byrne has made multiple references to private sports leagues being a potential hot spot.

“The spread is serious and people’s lives are in jeopardy,” said Latimer.

Latimer said the County would shift its workforce of 4,000 to 50% remote starting next week and encouraged other local businesses to allow remote work when possible.

Important to note expanded reporting now shows fatality data from all nursing homes in the State, including The Osborn in Rye.

Fatalities of Westchester residents: 1,469
Fatalities at Westchester nursing homes – The Osborn Home in Rye is reporting six (6) confirmed COVID-19 deaths and six (6) presumed COVID-19 deaths thru October 18th (that’s no new confirmed deaths since the prior update). There is no data from Rye Manor or Vienna Senior Housing.)

Tested positive: 39,548
% Positive results: 5.1%
