Rye Veterans Day Ceremony – Video & Photos
Rye held its annual Veterans Day Ceremony virtually on Wednesday, releasing a video of remarks of local government, religious and American Legion officials. “This country is in a great divide,” said Fred De Barros, Commander of American Legion Post 128. “It is that time to pause, to stop and remember the courage of those that have served our country.”
De Barros suggested ways residents could honor veterans including flying the American flag, learning about veterans – especially about local Rye veterans, and supporting veteran groups.
Among the various speakers, Tim Moynihan of American Legion Post 128 and Dave Ball of RyeVets.org, told the story of Rye’s Bailey family and the family’s service to our country. Ball, RyeVets.org’s historian and a retired RHS teacher, and the site’s creator Chris Maloney, have been busy documenting 2,200 veterans from Rye who have served in WWI,WWII, Korea and Vietnam.
Ball and Maloney are actively looking for emails for these veterans and their families, and asking families and acquaintances to add any information, photos, corrections or relevant records (such asDD-214 Discharge Records). You can submit these to: [email protected]. You are also welcome to leave comments on the bottom of each veteran’s page of any memories you would like to share.
