The City of Rye will carry on its tradition of honoring Rye veterans on Veterans Day, Wednesday, November 11, 2020. However, this year due to COVID-19 guidelines, the ceremony will be conducted virtually and will air on Rye TV at 11am and again throughout Veterans Day.

American Legion Post 128 Commander Fred de Barros will lead the virtual ceremony. Rye City Mayor Josh Cohn and County Executive George Latimer will speak. Robin Latimer will sing patriotic songs and Rev. Kate Malin will lead the invocation.

Post Adjutant Tim Moynihan and Dave Ball, former Rye High School teacher and historian at RyeVets.org, will read the story of Charles W. Bailey and his family serving in WWI through the Korean War. An argument can be made that no Rye family has sacrificed as much as the Baileys in the service of their country.

The mission of RyeVets.org is to research all available archival sources and create a short biography for all veterans who served from Rye, NY. The project has always been a community effort in conjunction with the Rye Historical Society, American Legion Post 128, Rye High School and Middle School and numerous volunteers. No other community has ever attempted anything on this scale and the project could serve as a template for all other interested municipalities across the United States.
