Rye Troop 2 Scouts and their families brought hope to those in need as part of our National Day of Service on Martin Luther King Day.

The troop held an all-day food drive collecting four truckloads of food donations to benefit the Bread of Life food pantry. “We are so appreciative of everything they have done to help those that are hungry in our community,” said Sue Wexler, director of community outreach for Bread of Life and www.givingtreeglobal.org.

The food will be be distributed at Bread of Life’s on-site food pantry, and to seniors at Mamaroneck towers, Rye Manor and New Rochelle’s Huguenot House.

The Bread of Life said the Pelligrini family, in particular, has helped rescue food from the Rye Farmers Market, organized numerous food drives, and distributed food on pantry days. This past summer, Scoutmaster Garrick Gelinas and his family worked together to make pantry bags, and rescued bagels. Many other scouts and their parents have signed up to serve in the pantry throughout the coming months.

Bread of Life provides food, other essentials and hope to over 10,000 of the most vulnerable members of our community weekly. The organization rescues excess food that would be discarded as waste from over 18 locations and delivers it free of charge to 24 food pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters throughout our area.

Bread of Life also distributes canned goods, fresh produce, meat, poultry and dairy items to individuals at its own on-site food pantry in Rye. They currently feed over 800 people on each pantry day.

The Bread of Life’s pantry is located at 65 Orchard Ave Rye and has hours Mondays from 11am -1pm. It also operates as an emergency food pantry and can help people other days as needed. Food donations may be dropped off at 65 Orchard Avenue in Rye. Financial donations may be made via Venmo Bread Life @Bread-of-Life or at GivingTreeGlobal.org.
