Rye FD Adds Two Recruits to Career Staff

On Monday, the City of Rye Fire Department added two new recruits, bringing the career fire fighter headcount to twenty. Rye City Clerk Carolyn D’Andrea, Esq. swore in Salvatore Inguanti and Kevin Ramsey in a brief ceremony at Rye City Hall (see our photos and video below).

“It is always nice to have a home grown specimen we can experiment with,” said Lt. Robert J. Falk, Rye’s Interim Commissioner of Public Safety, joking that both recruits are Rye locals. “It should be fun for the next twenty five years.” After noting the importance of Inguanti’s construction background and Ramsey’s fitness background, and how these skills will add to the department, Falk added “with these two new hires we’ll be able to cut down on some exorbitant overtime bills and start heading towards a structured professional fire department.”

Rye Mayor Josh Cohn echoed Falk’s commitment to a fully manned FD before addressing the new recruits. “We are expecting so much of you. We are expecting your bravery, your intelligence and your strength in the worst of circumstances.”

Meet Salvatore Inguanti

Local resident Salvatore Inguanti joins the department with extensive knowledge of building structures, reading blueprint plans and layouts, and OSHA and building code regulations. He has experience operating heavy equipment and is familiar with carpentry, plumbing and electrical work. Salvatore is the “I” in P&I Custom Builders, the general contracting company started in 2003 he runs with Roger Paganelli.

Meet Kevin Ramsey

Kevin Ramsey, a life-long Rye resident, will begin his professional career as a fire fighter after serving as a trained volunteer with the City of Rye since 2016. Kevin is an athletic coach and fitness trainer who has worked with many youth organizations within Rye, including the Rye City School district, organizing after school physical and educational activities as well as training young athletes on the fundamentals of baseball and basketball.

The new recruits along with previously hired fire fighter Joseph Tolve, will begin their comprehensive training at the Westchester Fire Academy on March 16th.
