Just like in 2018 it’s the NYACK RED HAWKS (formerly Indians) stampeding into the “New Nugent” for a Class A playoff invasion between the Rockland County Class A chieftains and Westchester’s undefeated Garnets. Rye enters the teepee at 5-0 while the braves have only played three games at 2-1 due to pandemic pausing. This is the third time in four years Rye’s Garnet and Black have been matched with Nyack’s Black and Red whether they be the Red Hawks or Indians. Over the years the Garnets have corralled the Indians and captured the wampum at 11-5-0 (.688).
In this odd but welcomed spring football season this is the final week of an abbreviated five game regular season now being followed by a single power-matched playoff game (Nyack). No customary Section One and New York State playoffs culminating in the declaration of a Class A State Champion will be played in Spring 2021.
Rye’s Garnets have the experience advantage having engaged in six battles to only a scant three for the Hawks. The experience factor plus Rye’s extra days of preparation allow Rye to clip Nyack’s wings as the Garnets soar 35-8.
As this weekend’s games conclude the Fall 2020 season played in Spring 2021, Garnet fans do not fret as Rye Garnet Football and this “Old Garnet” will return to the gridiron, air waves, newspapers websites and myRye.com in just four short months.
