RCSD New Faces: Rye High School

There are new faces, new positions and old faces at new positions at the Rye City School District this fall. Here is a look at the new folks at Rye High School.

Suzanne Short

Interim Principal, Rye High School

Suzanne Short will serve as Interim Principal of Rye High School for the 2021-2022 school year.  Ms. Short has been one of Rye High School’s two Assistant Principals for the past seven years. She joined the District in 2002 as an English teacher in the High School. In 2013, she served as the Middle and High School English Department Chair. She was appointed Assistant Principal at the High School in 2014. Prior to coming to Rye, she taught at Archbishop Stepinac High School in White Plains.

Ms. Short has a B.A. in English, Secondary Education, from Fredonia State University, an M.A. in English Literature from Lehman College, and an advanced graduate certificate in Educational Leadership from SUNY Stony Brook.

Giuliana Addesso

English Teacher

Ms. Addesso comes to Rye from P.S. 175 City Island in Bronx, NY, where she has taught 7th and 8th grade ELA for four years and, previously,  8th grade Humanities, Study Skills, and French classes for three years.

She has a B.A. in English Literature, a B.A. in Secondary Education with a Concentration in English, and an M.S. in Adolescent Students with Disabilities, all from Manhattan College, and a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Western Governors University.

Joleen Rabuano

Social Studies Teacher

Ms. Rabuano is already a familiar face on the RHS/RMS campus having worked as a 6th grade social studies leave replacement teacher last year. Prior to coming to Rye, Ms. Rabuano was a 7th grade American History Leave Replacement and 6th-8th grade substitute teacher in the Bronxville Union Free School District. For eight years, she taught Global History, Geography I, U.S. History, and AP Psychology in the Harrison Central School District. Ms. Rabuano has a B.A. in History from Saint Michael’s College and an M.S. in Secondary Education from the College of Saint Rose.

Charles Cipriano

Guidance Counselor, RHS

Mr. Cipriano comes to RHS from Fordham Preparatory School where he worked as a school counselor for the past five years. Prior to working at Fordham, he was a Guidance Counselor and College Enrichment Program Coordinator at St. Joseph High School in Trumbull, CT, and an Upper and Middle School Guidance Counselor at St. Andrews School in Boca Raton, FL.  Mr. Cipriano has a B.A. in Sociology and Anthropology from Fairfield University, and an M.A. in School Counseling from Manhattan College.

Heidi Sakanaka

Senior Office Assistant, RHS Main Office

Ms. Sakanaka will be the new, friendly face greeting students, faculty, and staff in the Principal’s Office at Rye High School. She comes to the High School from Manhattanville College’s School of Education, where she was Assistant Dean for Community Outreach for six years and an Administrative Assistant in the College’s English Language Institute for the four years prior. Ms. Sakanaka has a B.A. in Linguistics from Cornell University and an M.B.A. from Boston University.
