Fundraisers for Three Midland School Staff Flooded Out of Homes
Three Midland School staff members were severely impacted by Hurricane Ida’s floodwaters. Online fundraising efforts have been launched to help mute the watery blows to each of their homes. The fundraising is being organized by the Rye Teachers Association faculty club and building reps at Midland.
Katherine Sweeney, 3rd Grade Teacher, over 20 Years at Midland
Sweeney lives on Wappanocca Avenue in Indian Village. This is not the first time that a hurricane has caused damage to Katharine’s home, but it is sadly the most destructive. Katharine is currently staying with family as her home is uninhabitable due to the effects of the storm. Donate to Sweeney.
Peter Corcoran, Midland Custodian, over 20 Years at Midland
Corcoran lives in Rye Brook. The storm caused a literal floodgate to open, destroying the first floor of Pete’s home, his garage, backyard, and his daughter’s car. Donate to Corcoran.
Maggie Culyer, Teacher Assistant for Special Education on Cathy Sales’ Primary Classroom, over 10 Years at Midland
Maggie Culyer was born and raised in Rye (She is the daughter of Jim Culyer, who served many years on the Board of Education, including four years as Board President). She now lives in Port Chester with her wife Deb, son Mason, and two pups, Slinky and Brownie. The immense rainfall breached their home, destroying their basement, the first floor of their home and rendering both of their vehicles totaled. In addition to this stress, there was an oil leak, requiring hazmat services and rendering their home uninhabitable. Donate to Culyer.
