The City of Rye is warning residents not to use electrical items – including electrical appliances, equipment, outlets and circuit breakers – that have been subject to flooding. Ida has been declared a federal disaster so individuals and businesses may be eligible for FEMA aid. The City is also collected data on damage assessments to provide to the County, ostensibly to arrange for further aid and resources.

“All residents are strongly urged not to use any appliances or electrical equipment that has been subjected to flooding. This also includes electrical outlets, switches, lighting fixtures, & circuit breaker panels. The use of wet electrical equipment can cause overheating of the appliance and lead to hazardous conditions, including fire. We highly recommended you contact your electrician to determine the safe operation of your appliances and the electrical wiring inside your home.
