The City of Rye is warning residents not to use electrical items – including electrical appliances, equipment, outlets and circuit breakers – that have been subject to flooding. Ida has been declared a federal disaster so individuals and businesses may be eligible for FEMA aid. The City is also collected data on damage assessments to provide to the County, ostensibly to arrange for further aid and resources.

This also includes electrical outlets, switches, lighting fixtures, & circuit breaker panels. The use of wet electrical equipment can cause overheating of the appliance and lead to hazardous conditions, including fire. We highly recommended you contact your electrician to determine the safe operation of your appliances and the electrical wiring inside your home.

At this time, Ida has been declared a federal disaster that qualifies for FEMA funding to support both emergency response measures taken by local and state governments as well as individual assistance for residents who suffered damages. Please complete this spreadsheet with your damage assessments and return to the
City so that we may provide the County with an understanding of the damage impacts. Submitting this worksheet does not constitute a request for assistance.
Individuals must file directly with FEMA here or in person when FEMA arrives with its Disaster Recovery Center. Please work with your insurance companies to determine coverage and file necessary insurance claims as FEMA is not a replacement for insurance.
Small businesses should also be able to file, though FEMA may refer them to the Small Business Administration for consideration for loans before FEMA provides any relief. In any case, potential claimants should have filed claims on their insurance policies before approaching FEMA. FEMA will require you to have filed against your insurance first.
For those residents with damages from Henri, please submit this worksheet to the City for losses incurred from Henri. At this time, the County does not believe we will meet the minimum threshold required to establish a declaration for assistance, but we will submit the information, in case.
