Friday night the Garnets travel across the Tappan Zee to the nearest eastern shore of Rockland County. In the shoreline tree tops the Nyack Red Hawks soar, fish and play football.
They used to be the Indians, but like St John’s U, Section One’s Ossining and John Jay – Cross River, Cleveland of MLB, Syracuse U and the NFL’s Washington Team, they cut the long-standing mascot and ipso change-o you have the new Nyack Red Hawks sporting the exact same duds with Rye’s color scheme, black and red.
On the football field it’s a ”Tale of Two Seasons” with the Garnets ringing up a perfect 6-0 slate while Nyack is the 0-5 polar opposite. It’s all Garnets all the time. This Old Garnet has been better than Draft Kings this season and OG says Rye soars over the fledgling Red Hawks 42-6 as the Garnets roll to a 7-0 season tally.
