Downtown Purchase Street Closed Thursday for Emergency Sewer Repair
On Thursday, April 28th, the City will perform an emergency sewer repair along Locust Avenue and Purchase Street. The street closure will run from the Boston Post Road (from the Square House) to Smith Street.
This initial work will take place from 7:30am to 4:00pm, with the road re-opening in the evening. The street will be open to pedestrian traffic only during this time.
The City anticipates a lengthier road closure of approximately three weeks for additional sewer work in the coming weeks.
The Locust Avenue sewer main handles all volume from the Central Business District. The sewer current and upcoming rebuild is part of the DEC and Save the Sound agreement. Save the Sound sued Rye and other local municipalities back in 2015 over raw sewage that was leaking into waterways and down into the Long Island Sound.
