The Rye High School senior prom is this Friday at the Mamaroneck Beach & Yacht Club. The Rye PD has issued four prom night safety tips for parents. The PD will have extra patrols working the night of the prom in both marked and unmarked units on the lookout for underage drinking.

The four safety tips for parents:

  1. KNOW THE LAWS
You cannot serve or purchase alcohol to/for anyone under 21 – nor can you give alcohol to your children’s friends – even in your own home and with their parent’s permission. You will be breaking the law and you will be arrested.
  2. YOUR TEEN HAVING A PARTY AT YOUR HOME – Plan in advance. Know the guest list and avoid ‘open parties.’ Set rules: no alcohol/drugs, no smoking, no leaving and returning, no gate crashers, lights will be left on.
  3. KNOW YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES.
Be visible and aware. You are LEGALLY LIABLE for teens who drink in your home or for anything that may happen to a minor who has been served alcohol/drugs in your home.
  4. YOUR TEEN GOING TO PARTYS
Call the parents to make sure there will be parental supervision during the entire event and that no alcohol is allowed and/or will be served. Urge your teen to NEVER ride home with a driver who has been drinking.

Rye PD is offering to discuss these tips or other safety issues with concerned residents. Please call Detective Lieutenant Mike Anfuso at (914) 967-1234.
