Boys Varsity Soccer Fords Riverside
Rye Boys Varsity Soccer forded Riverside on Wednesday, taking the win 4-3.
“Jack Childs stood out in the center of the midfield, both for his playmaking and his strong defending,” said Rye Boys Varsity Soccer Coach Jared Small. “Ollie Lincoln played the full 80, anchoring the left side of the defense. And of course it was exciting to see Takumi Otani record his first career goal to help us even the score late in the first half.”
Riverside led three separate times, and each time Rye responded with the equalizer before finally pulling away in the second half. Riverside opened the scoring in the 4th minute with an upper-90 rocket from captain Ermin from 30 yards out.
Jonas van Beurden notched his 3rd goal of the season in the 13 minute to level the game. Mackic again scored in the 29th minute, but the Garnets answered back when Takumi Otani converted a pass from Joe Chai. Riverside scored on the ensuing kickoff to retake a 3-2 lead in the 35th minute.
Rye’s team defending was sharper in the second half, and goals by Stijn Terlouw and Henry Field lifted the team to a 4-3 win. Jack Childs finished with 2 assists.
