Girls Varsity Soccer Shines in Hall of Fame Tourney
Rye Girls Varsity Soccer shined in day one of the Hall of Fame Soccer tournament. The Garnets took the game from Cicero-North Syracuse 5-1.
“Rye played a very discipline style of soccer against a much larger, physical Cicero-North Syracuse soccer team,” said Rye Girls Varsity Soccer Coach Rich Savage. “Rye was able to move the ball around and create scoring opportunities using their speed to open up the field.”
Sophmore Mary Sack opened the scoring up with an assist from Mali White. Maddy Walsh then received a perfect pass from stand out defender Alli Koford. With only 5 seconds left in the half, freshman Phoebe Lee scored her second goal in Rye’s second game with an assist from Paige Vanneck.
Cicero-North Syracuse come out strong in the second half scoring on a penalty Kick making the score 3 – 1. Rye responded quickly with an assist from Maddy Walsh. Freshman Samantha Yeh had the final assist, while Maddy Walsh had the final goal of the game.
Freshman Keeper Tessa Labowitz was solid on the net for Rye making 6 saves. Defenders Sage Ruttenberg and Claire Nemsick were outstanding for Rye’s defense.
Rye will play Burnt Hills Lake School Sunday at 11:00am.
The season is now 2-0.
