Varsity Skiing Heads to the Lodge After Successful Season
Rye Varsity Skiing is heading to the lodge to celebrate the end of a successful season. The best ski racers from the 28 schools of Section 1 competed Tuesday at Hunter Mountain for the chance to qualify for the State Championship at Bristol Mountain on February 27 & 28th.
Racers skied two runs in giant slalom and two runs in slalom. To qualify, the section takes the top 3 racers for combined giant slalom; the top 3 combined slalom; the best 3 combined slalom times from one school and the remaining slots (11 in Total) qualifying by their best slalom and best giant slalom runs combined.
“With five of our eight Sectional qualifiers competing in their very first post season race we were very pleased with how our athletes performed especially with so much talent up on the hill,” said Rye Varsity Skiing Coach Jeffrey Steinmann. “While a couple of our racers fell a bit short of their goals we definitely have something to build on as all will be returning next season.”
The Garnets ended their 2023 season run Tuesday, falling short of qualifying for the State Championship. Here are the results:
