Democrats Unveil Slate for City Council Race
Rye Town Park advocate Jamie Jensen will join sitting Council members Lori Fontanes and Josh Nathan to form the Democratic ticket for the 2023 Rye City Council election. The Council has three seats opening for the fall race – from Fontanes, Nathan and Carolina Johnson. Johnson, a longtime flood remediation advocate, was elected in an uncontested election in 2019 (along with Richard Mecca and Pam Tarlow).
“This is an amazing slate of dedicated community volunteers. Their belief in principles of good government and their proven ability to work across party lines for the good of the community is what Rye residents deserve,” said Rye Democratic Committee Chair Danielle Tagger-Epstein, a former member of the City Council.
The slate been endorsed by County Executive George Latimer and each of Rye’s elected representatives in the State and County legislatures: State Senator Shelley Mayer, State Assemblyman Steve Otis, and County Legislator Catherine Parker. Latimer, Otis and Parker have all served as elected officials in Rye.
In a joint statement Fontanes, Jensen and Nathan said “We are committed to using our longstanding knowledge of Rye to make sure that all voices are heard, all issues are considered carefully, and that City government always works in a nonpartisan, responsive and effective manner to address the needs of Rye residents, businesses, and community organizations. These guiding principles represent our commitment to serving Rye.”
