After Multi-Year Closure, Playland Beach & Pool Open with Upgrades

Playland Park officially debuted its new waterfront and pool-side experiences on Saturday. The day marked the re-opening of Playland Beach and Playland Pool — both of which have been closed since 2021 and 2019, respectively. Playland Park opened for the season last Saturday.
It will be the first year the beach and pool is under the active management of Playland’s operator, Standard Amusements. Last year was Standard’s first year operating the park under its long term contract with Westchester County.
“For years this was inactive and kind of ugly looking, now it’s another space that’s activated,” Playland General Manager Jeff Davis said. “Our whole goal is that everywhere on campus here, you’re gonna find something. So now this is a big piece of it, having the beach open and the pool open, and looking as good as it does. This really starts tying the campus together.”
The Pool
Playland Pool has seen some serious changes, including upgraded locker rooms, a zero depth entry point, and a dedicated splash zone for younger children. Visitors can also enjoy new lounge furniture and an updated pool deck overseeing the Long Island Sound.
“It’s a zero depth entry pool, great for families, great for kids,” said GM Davis. “But it also has four feet of water and some swimming lanes for the older kids. And there are beach sprayers, little mini bucket drop style to get your wet. New seating, shade. We’ll have a grab and go marketplace with some nice café seating.”
After talk of filling in the pool and eliminating it completely, the pool was closed after the 2019 season for an extensive multi-million dollar renovation. It was originally scheduled to open in 2022, but delays meant Saturday was its first day back serving guests since the 2019 closure.
Playland Beach
Alongside the pool, Playland Beach has also been renovated. A 35-foot inflatable waterfront slide sits on the beach as well as a beach volleyball court. Lounge chairs and beach umbrellas are available for rent. On weekends there will be kayak and paddleboard rentals as well as a steel drum to provide musical entertainment.
On the boardwalk, a sundry shop has been added where patrons can purchase sunscreen, sunglasses, towels, swimsuits, and other articles of clothing. Playland management hopes that these renovations make the park as fun and safe as possible for thousands of visitors year round.
Hours and Costs
The beach and pool will be open 10:00am – 6:00pm every day Playland Park is open for the season. Entry cost is $14.99/person for the beach and pool and $9.99 for the beach only. A discount is available for those with a Westchester County Park Pass.
Playland will hold its first of four fireworks shows this season on Sunday, May 28th at 9:00pm.
