VIDEO & PHOTOS: Memorial Day Parade on Purchase Street
Residents of all ages marched through downtown Rye on Monday morning to celebrate and honor the 81 Rye veterans who lost their lives in combat. The annual tradition, which is organized by American Legion Post 128, commemorates those courageous Rye residents who made the ultimate sacrifice.
The parade began at 9:30am at the Rye train station before heading down Purchase Street towards Rye City Hall. Parade-goers then assembled on the Village Green for a formal Memorial Day ceremony.
Groups marching in the parade included members of American Legion Post 128 and Ladies Auxiliary, Rye City Council, Rye Fire Department, PC – Rye – Rye Brook Ambulance Corps, Boy Scouts Troop 2 and Pack 2, Girl Scouts, Rye HS Drum Corps, Hudson Heralds (Band), Larchmont Historical Fire Department, Friends of Read Sanctuary, Rye Boxing Club, Sky Blue Stables, G. Griffin Wine & Spirits, and other elected officials including Assemblyman Steve Otis; County Legislator Catherine Parker.
