Girls Varsity Soccer Puts Lady in Her Place to Become Regional Champs, Heads to Final Four
Rye Girls Varsity Soccer put the lady in her place on Saturday to become regional champs. The Garnets polished a 4 – 1 win against Our Lady of Lourdes at Wallkill High School to advance to the State Final Four tournament.
“At the start of the game, Our Lady of Lourdes was in a very defensive style of play, working on a counter attack style of play,” said Rye Girls Varsity Soccer Coach Rich Savage.
Charlotte Keenan was able to find the back of the net for the Garnets with 22 minutes left on the first half. Over the next 15 minutes, Rye had many scoring opportunities with Lyla Keenan, Reese Lejuez, Maddy Walsh and Isabelle Harvey. Each had close scoring opportunities but was unable to convert goals. With only 5 minutes left in the had, Lourdes sent a perfect long ball and was able to find the back of the net knotting the score at 1 – 1.
The second half, Rye came out more composed, moving the ball nicely around the Lourdes defense. Isabelle Harvey was able to score two goals within the first 15 minutes of the second half. Shortly thereafter, Bowyn Brown had Rye’s fourth and final goal of the match.
The Garnets will be traveling to Cortland on Friday for the State Final Four tournament.
