Alphonse F. “Sonny” Depauw was born on September 21, 1927, and resided at 78 Grapal St. During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army.

As per the records of the 1940 Census, Sonny’s address was Grapal Street in Rye, New York. Rye was a small with a population of 9,865 in 1940. Sonny’s father owned their home, which was valued at $11,000 at the time. At the age of 12, Sonny was the youngest of four children living in the household, along with Clarrisa, George, and Marie. Additionally, three other lodgers resided with them. Sonny’s father was 54 years old, and his mother was 51 years old at that time. Both parents had received an elementary education, while Sonny himself was attending elementary school. All family members, including Sonny’s parents and siblings, were born in New York. According to the census, Sonny’s father worked as a Policeman, logging 48 hours of work in the last week of March 1940.
