RYE GARNETS VERSUS MAINE-ENDWELL SPARTANS – SUNDAY, DECEMBER 3 @ 12:00 NOON @ JMA WIRELESS DOME, SYRACUSE, NY

It has been just three months since the late-summer “Week Zero”, devastating, season-opening loss against the arch-rival Harrison Huskies. Who would have ever predicted, after starting the season 2-2, that Garr’s Garnets would run the remaining tablescape with nine straight victories? And now after that full-course meal, the dessert is a state championship match with the undefeated (12-0) and state tourney-tested (two-time reigning New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class B Champions) MAINE-ENDWELL SPARTANS?

Just how do the Garnets stack-up against this Binghamton-area powerhouse? Read on!

Team Season Record Points For (TOT) Points Allowed (TOT) Margin of Victory (TOT)
Maine-Endwell 12-0 595 190 405
Rye 11-2 409 166 243
Team Points For (AVG) Points Versus (AVG) Margin (AVG)
Maine-Endwell 50 16 34
Rye 31 14 17

On paper Las Vegas would set the Spartans as a two-touchdown favorite, maybe more. Early prognosticators in Section IV would say the Royal Blue & Gold should win this one “going away”. M/E’s undefeated season was accomplished against such teams as Chenango Valley, Owego Free Academy (2), Corning Painted Post, Union Endicott, Windsor, Chenango Forks (ugh not Rye’s four-time state tourney final rival?), Johnson City, Norwich (2), Indian River and Monroe. Everything points to a Spartan mashing of the Garnets.

To close the 2023 season, we renew two old-time favorite Rye High School songs.

Cheer for Rye High as we march to victory,

Cheer for Rye High, we must win today

Sing for Rye High, a song that’s strong and true,

Fight! Fight! Fight! With all your might as we cheer you.

Fight Garnets, fight for Rye High,

Fight Garnets, fight for Rye High.

Hail oh Garnets do or die,

We are always by your sides.

Fight Garnets, fight for Rye High

Fight Garnets, fight for Rye High

Hail to the Alma Mater,

Fight for Rye High Garnets fight.

There is no tomorrow, no more practices and no more games. These Spartans aren’t from Michigan State or even San Jose State. Miller is a Top-10 NY State-wide quarterback while Iuliano is a Top-10 NY State touchdown scoring machine, so it is easy for the Old Garnet to call this one:

FOR THESE SPARTANS, ALL’S WELL THAT ENDS WELL – GARNETS 29 SPARTANS 24
