After High Speed Chase, Rye PD Arrests 21 Year Old Man for Stolen Vehicle

Rye PD arrested a 21 year old man on Thursday morning during commuting hours for possession of a stolen vehicle, fleeing an officer and reckless driving. The arrest involved a  high speed chase in downtown Rye on Purdy Avenue, Boston Post Road and then Midland Avenue into Port Chester.

On Thursday February 15, 2024 at approximately 8:15 am the City of Rye Police Department was alerted to a stolen vehicle traveling within the City. The white Volkswagen Jetta was reported stolen out of New Haven, Connecticut February 11th. When a Rye PD officer spotted the reported stolen vehicle on Purdy Avenue and attempted to initiate a motor vehicle stop, the driver fled northbound on the Boston Post Road at a high rate of speed.

Officers from the City of Rye and the Village of Port Chester continued the chase ending on Midland Avenue in Port Chester after a brief foot pursuit. The driver was identified as 20 year old Shyheim Mcquillar of New Haven, Connecticut.

Mcquillar was charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 3rd; Unlawful Fleeing of an Officer in a Vehicle and Reckless Driving. Mcquillar was arraigned in Rye City Court and ordered to be held at the Westchester County Correctional Facility with bail set at $1500 cash. His next Court appearance is scheduled for February 20th. Rye PD reminds you that booking charges are merely accusations and the defendant(s) are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
