Rye Boys Varsity Tennis trapped the Bobcast of Byram Hills on Friday with a 5 – 4 win at home.

The Rye Garnet tennis squad had a significant win today against Byram Hills,” said Rye Boys Varsity Tennis Coach Sue Dickson. “The strength of the team lies in its unity and support of each other in all circumstances.”

The singles players swept the Byram Hills Bobcats. First singles player Henry Groves won 6-1, 6-0 against Aaron Lepofsky; Nicolas Echlov won at second singles, 6-4, 6-2 against Matt Gellar, and Luke Gordon won at third singles, 6-3, 6-2 against Arun Das.

These matches gave Rye a nice cushion along with a solid win with the third doubles team, freshmen Filip Glitterstam and Lou Kim-Reuter who won 6-4, 6-0. They simply wore down their opponents.

Alex Gordon and Matthew Templeman won at first doubles 6-2, 6-4 in a feisty match. This was a solid win for the team and fourth doubles, Oliver Lincoln and Ty Bibas, only lost a squeaker of a super-tiebreaker.

The bar is high for the Garnets and Coach Dickson expects them to continue to raise the bar with sportsmanship, quality of play, and tenacity with each and every match heading into the last week of the regular season.

The team is now 5 – 4 for the season. Rye will travel on Monday to battle Byram Hills again for a 4:30pm match.
