Since 2019, the only thing that has stopped the Rye Boys Varsity Lacrosse team has been COVID-19.

The Garnets defeated John Jay Cross River 11-7 on Wednesday, May 29, clinching their fifth consecutive Section 1, Class C championship. The Garnets previously won their section in 2019, 2021, 2022, and 2023, and seemingly would have finished atop their competition in 2020 as well, if not for the pandemic.

Henry Shoemaker scored a hat trick for the Garnets, while Garrett Sullivan and Tucker Hess chipped in multi-point performances each as well. Tyler McDermott, Carson Miller, Chris Iuliano, Wilson Redd, and Henry Gilroy all scored in the victory. Ty Ramachandran recorded 13 saves in goal in a very strong showing. McDermott’s short-handed goal was a key turning point in the third quarter.

Head Coach Steve Lennon and the Garnets will look to keep the good times rolling at 5:30pm on Saturday. They take on Queensbury, winners of Section 2, at Lynch Literacy Academy in Amsterdam, NY. A victory there would place Rye within the final four of all teams within New York State public high schools.
