Pride Month Starts Today and Tomorrow

(Updated, Friday 9:30am: City officials are now saying there will be elected officials and  community members at City Hall for the 3:30pm flag raising.)

Pride month is June, but flags will go up on Friday, May 31st around the City of Rye before a more extensive event in Rye Town Park on Saturday, June 1st.

Flags

Pride flags are expected to be raised by City Hall, Rye Recreation and the Rye City School District on Friday afternoon. At 3:00pm, Rye High School and the schools GSA will celebrate its 4th annual flag raising. Just afterwards, between 3:30pm – 4:00pm, flags are expected to be hoisted at City Hall and Rye Recreation (no formal ceremonies are planned).

Saturday Event

On Saturday, June 1st, the local pRYEde group has organized an event in Rye Town Park starting at 4:30pm:
  • Pride Fair and Art Fair 4:30pm – 6:00pm
  • Pride Flag Raising Ceremony with elected officials 6:00pm – 6:20pm
  • Pride Parade along the Playland Boardwalk 6:30pm – 7:00pm
  • After Party on the beach by the North Building with a live DJ and food catered by the Barley Beach House 7:00pm – dusk

The events are open and no cost with the exception of a $10 entrance fee for the After Party which can be purchased online or at the door. Organizers are still recruiting volunteers for the event.
