Future drivers all stripes – DPW workers, future police and fire pros, bulldozer operators and electrical line workers showed up on the Rye village green last Sunday to test drive their future career choices.
One thousand one hundred children from 475 families came together for the Rye Free Reading Room’s annual Vehicle Fair. An array of vehicles including a fire truck, bulldozer, police car, and 100% electric Con Ed truck to admire or even sit in a driver’s seat, to kid-friendly activities including a bounce house, face painting, crafts, carnival rides and an inflatable obstacle course.
The Bubble Bus’ lively music and whimsical bubbles filling the air. Attendees had the chance to win dozens of raffle baskets, many with items donated by local shops and businesses. Food trucks offered snacks from popular hot dogs to lobster rolls to local Longford’s ice cream.
“The day was a big success thanks to a massive effort from many volunteers and local sponsors, including head sponsor, Rye Contracting,” said event co-chair Avery Bullock.
“It’s incredibly rewarding to provide an afternoon of fun for everyone while also raising over $31,000 to help fund library programs that benefit our whole community,” added co- chair Sara Keeshan.
