Significant Road Closures Expected Sunday Due to Half Marathon
Residents should expect significant road closures this Sunday, May 19th due to the second annual Soul Ryeders half marathon event. Rye PD is warning of “multiple road closures and significant detours throughout Rye” between the hours of 7:00am – 11:00am. Last year’s event drew more than 1,400 participants.
The intersection at Oakland Beach Avenue and Milton Road, a major thoroughfare, is expected to be shut from 8:00 am until approximately 9:30 am. Emergency vehicles will have access at all times.
The main gathering point of the half marathon and 5K run/walk half marathon is Rye Playland. The half marathon route uses parts of Forest Avenue, Milton, Midland and crosses into Port Chester using Grace Church Street. The 5K race uses Forest Avenue and is otherwise mostly contained within the grounds of Playland Park and Edith Read Sanctuary.
The Soul Ryeders group expects over 1,500 people (1,400+ runners and 100+ ace volunteers) to participate on Sunday. The event raises money for those affected by cancer in the Tri-State area.
