Rye Lacrosse Sweeps Queensbury, Girls and Boys Teams Advance to Final Four
Both Rye varsity lacrosse teams come through with victories over Queensbury’s boys and girls programs on Saturday, advancing to their respective final fours. The Boys team did so in dominating fashion, with a 16-3 decision, while the girls won the second half of their game 6-3 to earn an 11-8 win.
The Garnet boys totalled ten goals in the first quarter, before resting starters and coasting to the victory. Junior attack/midfielder Tucker Hess had two goals and three assists in the win, crossing the 100 point threshold on the year. He now has 42 goals and 61 assists for 103 points in total.
The girls had a much tougher matchup than the boys and than in their Sweet 16 game against Cornwall. The Garnets and Spartans were deadlocked at 5 at halftime, before Rye rattled off four consecutive goals in the third quarter and hung on for the three-goal win. Lily Whaling scored the fourth of those tallies, her 66th of the year.
The boys next play against Bayport-Blue Point at 6:30pm on Wednesday, June 5, up in Albany. The girls will take on Fulton that same morning at 9:00am, at SUNY Cortlandt. If either team wins, they move on to the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Finals, which would be next Saturday, June 8.
