Westchester County announced Friday that they will mill and repave Rye’s portion of Midland Avenue starting at 7:00am on Monday, July 8.

Since Midland Avenue is a county-owned road, it will be Westchester County responsible for this process, which they estimate will span around two weeks.

“[The project] will begin with milling by the Parkway on one side of the road,” the county announced on July 5. “Once the crew reaches Port Chester, they will return on the opposite side of the road.”

Residents should expect delays when traveling in the area and should be prepared to take detours. The Rye Police Department will assist the county in monitoring and directing traffic throughout the entire project.

Of note, Westchester County explicitly stated that “care will be taken to not interfere with Rye Recreation camp pickup and drop off each day.” The county is choosing to undergo this project during Rye Rec’s popular summer camp as opposed to during the school year. The drop-off window usually extends from 8:00am until just after 9:00am, while pickup varies by age (Kiddy Camp ends at 12:00pm for some campers and 2:00pm for others, while Day Camp goes until 3:00pm.)

Besides Rye Rec, other businesses that may be affected by the repaving process are Belluscio’s Restaurant, Delicias Arellano, Kelly’s Sea Level restaurant, and Midland Avenue Deli.

  1. Its about time! The Marianas trench at the Midland and Apawamis intersection is a hazard to Navigation, not to mention the likelihood of someone breaking their ankle as they cross the street.
