Body of Rye Man Found in Stamford Park, Apparent Suicide

The body of 53 year old James Stevens, of Seneca Street in Rye, was found in a Stamford Park Sunday night. The death is being reported as a suicide:

"The man has been identified as James Stevens, 53. A cause of death has not been officially released, but he is believed to have taken his own life. The Greenwich Police Department received a call Sunday evening from the man's wife asking for help because she was concerned about his welfare. The man reportedly would often bring his bicycle to the Mianus River Park and travel around the area but when he did not return home at the typical time, his wife contacted police. Shortly after 8 p.m. Sunday night, Greenwich police, members of the fire department and Greenwich Emergency Medical Services searched the park along with assistance from a K-9 officer from Stamford. Police said the body was discovered at approximately 9:30 p.m. and the initial belief is that the man committed suicide."
