Joseph Groglio

Joseph W. Groglio was born to parents Gerald and Mary on April 29, 1929, in Rye, NY. He had five brothers (Gerald, William, George, Nick, and John) and one sister (Angela). The Groglios lived at 34 Elizabeth Place in Rye during Joseph’s childhood and were members of the Church of the Resurrection. Groglio graduated Rye High School in 1947.

Similar to most of his family, Joseph was an avid sports fan. He belonged to the Rye Golf Club and also found himself on the Rye Thunderbolts roster, a local softball team, with other family members. He married Jeannette Rutland on Oct. 13, 1957, at St Gregory’s Church in Harrison.

Joseph served as a military policeman during more than three years of service time, while apart of the US Army and its efforts in Korea. He resumed living in Rye with his wife Jeannette and four children (sons Joseph Jr., Michael, and Robert, and daughter Paula).

Groglio worked at Arnold’s Bakery in Greenwich, CT, for a remarkable 47 years before retiring in 1991. He was on the board of directors of the Credit Union at the bakery. This was not the only leadership position Joseph held in the community, as his proficient involvement with Rye Little League and the Rye Babe Ruth League earned him the title of vice president for the Babe Ruth level for three years from 1971-73. Additionally, he was a member of the Double R Hunting Club for 25 years and bowled on his company team.

Joseph W. Groglio Sr. sadly passed away on October 16, 1994, at the United Hospital Medical Center in Port Chester. He was survived by his wife, four children, all six siblings, and four grandchildren. He was 65. More on Groglio.
