The Girls Varsity Soccer Team defeated section one rival Somers 2-0 on Tuesday afternoon, improving to 3-0 and registering their third consecutive clean sheet victory.

The Garnets and Tuskers played to a scoreless first half in Rye’s first game after winning the NYS Hall of Fame Tournament, which evidently served as an effective preseason slate.

“[We] played a very composed game and moved the ball nicely throughout the game,” Head Coach Rich Savage told MyRye.com after the game. “The midfield play of Parker Calhoun, Lyla Keenan and Iciar Garate help to neutralize Somers’ attack.”

A Lyla Keenan corner kick set up Rye’s icebreaking goal in the second half, as Claire Nemsick found the back of the net with the eventual game-winning tally. Keenan added one of her own just minutes later to double the lead off an assist from Shira Rand.

The Garnets (3-0) host Pearl River on Thursday, September 12, in their official home opener. The game will be streamed – watch it.
