The Girls Varsity Tennis Team made it two in a row on Thursday, as the Garnets handled the John Jay-Cross River Wolves 7-0 on the road. Rye won all four singles and three doubles matches to complete the sweep in their second match in as many days.

Freshmen doubles pair Caroline May and Eliza Relyea (pictured above) won their first Varsity match together in straight sets 6-4, 6-2. According to head coach Anthony Campbell, the pair were “communicating beautifully on the court” as they “settled into the match and pulled away.”

Beyond May and Relyea, sophomore Alex DiMeo did not lose a set in the #1 singles match, winning 6-0, 6-0. Campbell believes his star player is “rounding into mid-season form” at just the right time, according to his postgame report. It was much closer in the first doubles match, where Rye’s Brooke Gori and Aerin Delizia eked out a 5-7, 6-4, 10-4 win in tiebreakers. This match took over three hours, but the Garnet seniors prevailed to complete the team sweep in a remarkable effort.

Rye (5-3) does not get any longer a break, as they gear up for a third straight day with a match. The Garnets travel to Pelham to take on the Pelicans on Friday at 4:30pm as they look for their sixth win of the 2024 season.
