Rye Girls Varsity Soccer opened up its season with a 3-0 victory over Fayetteville Manlius in game one of the New York State Hall of Fame Tournament, taking down what Head Coach Rich Savage called a “triple-A powerhouse”.

The Garnets struck first in the first half off the foot of Parker Calhoun, assisted by Bowyn Brown. They added to their lead twice in the second half thanks to Shira Rand and Jill DeSanto. Charlotte Keenan recorded an assist on both 2nd-half tallies as the lead playmaker for Rye.

It was a strong defensive effort all around for the Garnets, backed by Blake Sasse’s four saves. It was the sophomore’s first career varsity start and subsequently her first win and shutout.

Rye is back for their second and final game of the small preseason HOF tournament tomorrow, September 8, against Monroe-Woodbury, as they look to jump out to a 2-0 start to their 2024 season.
