The Rye – Rye Neck – Blind Brook Swimming and Diving Team lost their first meet of the season on Monday, falling 99-87 to a strong Ursuline High School team. The team falls to 2-1 after this result, which saw many positives beyond the final outcome.

“I am very proud of how well everyone competed against a very talented Ursuline team,” Head Coach Katie Konopka told MyRye.com after the game. “The divers Claire Biddle, Jessica Lafferty, Zoe Lopez, and Autumn Massey-Carver were critical to keeping the score of the meet close.”

Biddle in particular shined. The ninth grader won the 1-meter dive with a score of 191.85 – good enough to earn her a qualification for the sectional championship meet later this year. She becomes the first diver to earn such an invite for the team in 2024.

For swimmers, Sophia Lord also qualified for the sectional championship meet in her event – the 100M breaststroke. She also claimed victory in two other events – 100 meter fly and as part of the 200M medley relay.

All in all, event winners include:
– 200 Medley Relay: Kate Chesely, Sophia Lord, Megan Tiedemann, Kayla Lombardo
– 1M Diving: Claire Biddle
– 100M Fly and 100M Breaststroke: Sophia Lord
– 100M Back: Kate Chesley

Rye – Rye Neck – Blind Brook is back in action on Thursday, September 19, at 4:30pm at the Hommocks Pool in Mamaroneck. The team will be in search of their third win as a group, and will hope for more impressive individual performances to send more athletes to state and sectional meets after the regular season concludes.
