For the game preview, we turn to the Steve “The OG” Feeney, the voice of Garnet football:

One must question the methodology and decision matrix used by the Section One Football Scheduling Committee to pit the newly merged Class AA East Ramapo Titans against the New York State Class B Champion Rye Garnets, now competing in Class A, in the season’s curtain-raiser. The math was simple enough in calculating the merger:

Spring Valley Tigers + Ramapo Gryphons = East Ramapo Titans.

It was a creative way to save two floundering football programs by combining the remaining returning players into one squad. Other East Ramapo 2024 opponents include Mount Vernon, White Plains and two of the squads from Yonkers, all Class AA schools categorized by enrollment size. Each of these football programs have struggled with declining interest levels and game forfeits in the recent past.

Rye has a 3-0-0 record versus the Spring Valley Tigers and has never played the Ramapo Gryphons.

Garnets, don’t overlook this nascent program with something to prove. The Old Garnet calls this one 42-6 Rye
