Girls Soccer Edges Past Pelham, Advances to Final Four
The Rye Girls Soccer Team defeated the Pelham Pelicans 1-0 on Monday evening, advancing to the third round (semi-finals) of their Sectional Tournament. Blake Sasse got the call in goal and came up with the clean sheet and Hannah Jachman scored in the first half to propel the Garnets to their second playoff victory of the year.
Iciar Garate picked up an assist on the game’s only goal, which came on a corner kick just under 7 minutes into the match. Jachman used her left foot to finish Garate’s feed for her second goal of the postseason in as many games.
Besides Garate, Jachman and Sasse, several other girls contributed to the close win. “Parker Calhoun, Bowyn Brown and Reese Lejuez were solid in the midfield for Rye,” Head Coach Rich Savage told MyRye.com after the game. “Claire Nemsick, Mary Sack, Ali Koford and Ava Cross were all solid for Rye’s defense.”
The #2 Garnets (16-1-1) continue their dream season on Wednesday, October 30, in the Section 1, Class A semifinals. Their opponent is #3 Pearl River, who is coming off a 2-1 victory over surprise quarterfinalist Nyack on Monday. That game is set for 6:00pm at Nugent Stadium on Halloween Eve. With a win, the Garnets would return to the sectional championship for a second consecutive year. Watch the win vs Pelham here. Stay tuned on LocalLive for a link to the semifinal match.
