Lincoln Burgess was born in Port Chester, New York on March 16, 1934, to Evart and Josephine Burgess. His family lived at 131 Purchase Street, Rye. Lincoln attended Rye High School, where he was part of the marching band, the choir, the track team, and the basketball team. He graduated in 1953 before enlisting in the Korean War.

After being discharged, Lincoln returned to Rye, where he got married and had three children: Lincoln M. Burgess, Tracy Drago and Glenn Westerink. He and his family lived on Halstead Avenue. Lincoln worked as a custodian at Rye High School, and he enjoyed decorating the endzones of the football field before every home game.
