The OG on Rye Football: Brewster Bears @ Garnets Friday for Quarterfinal Playoff Game

For the game preview, we turn to the Steve “The OG” Feeney, the voice of Garnet football:

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 1   BREWSTER @ RYE   7:00PM

Thanks to the abnormally warm autumn weather the BREWSTER BEARS have deferred the onset of their annual, seasonal hibernation for a chance to claw the #1 seeded Garnets of Rye. But are these the Bernstein Bears? Yogi Bear? Boo-Boo Bear? Pooh Bear? Or maybe a cuddly Teddy Bear? Not often have the Garnets and the Green and White brawled as the ledger shows Rye sweet as honey at 5-4-0 (.556).

To find the last time these teams met in a playoff encounter, we had to locate and decipher bear-cave wall scribblings all the way back to the 1997 Section One playoff round. That night Brewster stifled the Garnet offense that featured Chris Feeney, Rye’s All-Section wide receiver, and son of the O/G. Under the cloak of darkness the Bears waded into the stream and caught the salmon. This season the Garnets advance and the Bears hungrily go to sleep.
