John E. Bigelow was born in New York in 1925. His family lived at 5 Mendota Avenue in Rye. Bigelow enlisted in 1944 and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

In 1945, Bigelow graduated as Radioman Second Class from the U.S. Maritime Service Radio Training Station at Gallops Island, Boston Harbor. In 1950, he graduated from Yale University, where he was in the Phi Beta Kappa fraternity.
After the war, Bigelow was an engineer for Raytheon for over 40 years. He was also a Wellesley Special Police Sergeant, a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, and a member of the Gallops Island Radio Association.
John Bigelow died in 2003. He was predeceased by his wife Claudette and survived by his children, grandchildren, and sister. More on Bigelow.
