Holmes Bomann was born in New York on July 16, 1930 to Donald and Janet Bomann. He, his parents, and his brother, Donald Bomann Jr., lived at 114 Highland Road. Both brothers sailed for the Junior American Yacht Club in Rye.

Bomann graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy in 1949 and went on to row crew at Brown University. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps for two years as an intelligence administrator in Cherry Point, North Carolina.
After his service, Bomann tragically passed away on December 28, 1966. He was survived by Donald, who continued to reside in Rye before he passed away in 2018. More on Bomann.
